The People's Convention; Detroit

Line-Up of Speakers Rarely Seen Together

The People's Convention, sponsored by Turning Point Action and founded by Charlie Kirk brought a line-up of speakers rarely seen together at the same event. The weekend of June 14th through the 16th was truly an exciting weekend in Detroit. The convention, held at Huntington Place in Detroit, was a packed house and consisted of break out sessions, vendors and speakers on the main stage later in the day. On the final day, after Trump's speach, balloons fell from the ceiling and the crowd went wild. People cheered and danced to the music as they exited the main staging area; re-energized and ready to take on the 2024 Election.

ATTENDEE OPPORTUNITIES

The break out sessions began Thursday and included a plethora of choices including topics such as reaching people in your neighborhood, protecting the vote and reaching low propensity or unregistered voters. Much discussion focused around making the votes “too big to rig”.

Attendees also had the opportunity to listen in and in some cases be interviewed by "Real America’s Voice" spokespeople. The show ran live from the convention just inside the vendor area. I was one of those fortunate enough to have been interviewed regarding "wokeness" in public schools (considering my thirty years of teaching experience), and what it will take to turn Michigan red. I personally let Charlie Kirk know in that interview that Trump has already won in numbers. We just have to get those MAGA voters to the polls and work to get as much of the cheating out of the game as possible.

Shows presented included Steve Bannon’s, "The War Room", Steve Gruber’s, "America’s Voice Live", and "The Charlie Kirk Show". Each of these hosts were welcoming to the public, willing to get pictures with fans and provided information when asked.

EXCITEMENT BUILDS: Main Stage Speakers

As people began to file into the main staging area for the guest speakers, red, white and blue were the colors of the room with an especially large emphasis on red. Trump hats, shirts, pants, shoes, headbands, purses, buttons and other items were on prominent display. The enthusiasm was palpable.

Speakers included MTJ, Mike Lindell, James Lindsey, Scott Pressler, Matt Gaetz, Brandon Tatum, JD Vance, Aubrey Shines, Jack Prosobiec, Rick Scott, Candace Owens, Kristi Noem, Tulsi Gabbard, Ben Carson, Donald Trump Jr, Steve Bannon, Vivek Ramaswamy, Charlie Kirk, and, of course, President Donald J Trump. Speakers kept the crowds in the room and often standing and clapping loudly. Several speakers had their recent books available and signed them personally.

SAFETY PROMINENT: Attendees Wait Hours Without Complaint

Security was tight but especially on Saturday. The snaking line waiting to get into the main staging area turned into a couple of hours as the first hundred people let in had to be sent back out when security became aware that some people were let in without having being wanded. Though uncomfortable waiting in the long tight line that snaked as complex as a maze, complaining was not on the lips of those waiting. Conversation focused on the importance of making sure the room was safe over the rush to get in. The highlight, of course, was hearing the familiar song, "Proud to Be an American"

as the crowd cheered awaiting President Trump to finish out Saturday night. Late into the evening, Trump's speech concluded and according to the audience applause, he did not disappoint. Many of us left the conference singing, dancing and waving the balloons after having received a burst of earnest conviction and positivity for things to come.

The People’s Convention was a clear sign that much of Michigan supports Donald J Trump and it also demonstrated that he can win this double peninsula state on November fifth.
