Vote for "No Confidence"

Ottawa County Commissioner Phil Kuyers was elected and sworn in this year as the MAC Board President and took his oath on September 27th. Although his victory was almost unanimous among the counties, Muskegon County Republican Commissioners Malinda Pego, Doug Brown, Kim Cyr and Zach Lahring voted "No" for a vote of "No Confidence" due to the current lawsuit against Ottawa County.

Michigan Association of Counties

Every year officials and speakers from across Michigan gather for the MAC (Michigan Association of Counties) event at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island where they review and approve legislative policy over seeing areas ranging from finance to agriculture and tourism and elect official policy positions. Muskegon County Commissioners joined more than 300 county leaders at the MAC Annual Conference Sept. 26-28.

The Lawsuit Against Ottawa County

The Ottawa County Commissioners have become the target of angry parents over mask mandates and are suing the county for allowing the Ottawa County Health Department to overstep their authority. Muskegon County commissioners voted "No" for no confidence because the Ottawa County commissioners have failed to do their job defending their county's citizens and the lawsuit brought upon the Health Department, thus violating their oath to the Constitution and failure of statutory duties. Muskegon were the only commissioners to vote no for Phil Kuyers.

Praise For Standing Up

Muskegon County Republican commissioners are known for their dedication to upholding their oath to the constitution in all circumstances. Multiple officials from other counties praised the commissioners afterwards for standing up and commented they would like to connect further with them.
