Dear Citizen of Blue Lake Township,
I am running for Township Trustee, and many of you do not know anything about me. I thought this might be a good way for you to get to know a little about myself and why I am asking for your vote.
Having spent many summers at Big Blue Lake at my grandparent's cottage, and later vacationing at the County Park on Blue Lake, my wife (of thirty one years) and I, fell in love with the area and moved here from Grand Rapids ten years ago. Soon after, I became involved with the Big Blue Lake Association, and later served as it's president from 2001-2007. I also currently serve on the Zoning Board of Appeals, which has given me experience and an understanding of our local government, and some of the needs that exist. I have attended workshops for the ZBA, and environmental lake management. They have provided valuable training and information resources. It was then that I developed this sense of wanting to serve to our community. I feel that my background of twenty plus years in management, along with a background in accounting and customer service, will add to what I hope to bring to the township board.
I ask for your vote to elect me to the Trustee position, because it is my hope to bring not only a new and fresh perspective to the Township Board, but also, my professionalism and my skills in organization and structure. It is also my hope to work toward preserving the township level of government. I strongly feel that in most instances the ones who should be in control of what their community looks like how it is zoned are the very ones who live there. My case in point is the current scenario surrounding the Boy Scout Camp properties, in which the township had successfully defended their master plan in court. As of this letter, there is encouraging news that the Chicago Council may be making an effort to get out of the sales contract with Ben Smith.
We truly live in a very special place here in Blue Lake Township. I will do everything I can to preserve the environment and the unique qualities that make our community so great.
